Tone 8 Troparion (Resurrection)
While the stone was sealed by the Jews, and the soldiers were guarding Thy most pure body, Thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, granting life to the world. For which cause the heavenly powers cried aloud unto Thee, O giver of life. Glory to Thy Resurrection, O Christ, glory to Thy kingdom, glory to Thy providence, O Thou Who alone art the lover of mankind.
Tone 3 Troparion (St. Raphael)
Rejoice o Father Raphael, Adornment of the Holy Church! Thou art a champion of the true faith. Seeker of the lost. Consolation of the oppressed. Father to orphans, and friend of the poor. Peace maker and good shepherd. Joy of all the Orthodox. Son of Antioch. Boast of America. Intercede with Christ God for us
and for all who honor thee.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
Tone 8 Troparion ( Fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council)
Thou, O Christ, art our God of exceeding praise Who didst establish our Holy Fathers as luminous stars upon earth, and through them didst guide us unto the true Faith, O most merciful One, glory to Thee
Now and Ever and Unto the Ages of Ages Amen
Tone 2 Kontakion
O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the Creator most constant,
O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned; but be thou quick, O good one, to come unto our aid,
who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession,
and speed thou to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.
Tone 8 Prokeimenon (For the Fathers)
Blessed are Thou, O Lord, the God of our Fathers.
For Thou art just in all that Thou hast done to us.
Epistle of St. Paul to St. Titus. (3:8-15)
Titus, my son, faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire you to affirm confidently, that those who have believed in God may be thoughtful of how to preside in honorable occupations. These things are good and profitable to men. But avoid foolish disputes, and genealogies, and contentions, and controversies about the Law; for they are unprofitable and vain. A man who is a heretic after the first and second admonition reject, knowing that such a one is subverted, and sins, being self-condemned. When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicós, give diligence to come to me to Nicopolis; for I have determined to winter there. Set forward Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that they may be lacking in nothing. And let our people also learn how to preside in honorable occupations, so as to help in cases of urgent need, that they should not be unfruitful. All who are with me salute you. Salute those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
Tone 1 Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
V. God gives vengeance unto me, and subdues people under me. (Ps. 17:48)
V. He magnifies the salvation of the King and deals mercifully with David, His anointed, and his seed forever. (Ps. 17:51)
Gospel Luke 8:5-15
The Lord spoke this parable: “A Sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the path, and was trodden under foot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns grew with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew, and yielded a hundredfold.” And when His Disciples asked Him what this parable meant, Jesus said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. And as for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bring forth fruit with patience.” As Jesus said this, He called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Announcements
If you are interested in helping by serving behind the Altar as an Altar Server, please speak with Fr. Boulos. We will provide all the necessary training and support. The only requirement is to be a male over the age of seven.
We need volunteers to provide the coffee hour. Please talk to Subdeacon Suhail regarding what to bring and which Sunday.
Do Not be surprised that we do not pass a collection tray for donations. Our Lord said, “Freely you have received, Freely give.” If you are so inclined to give a donation, there is a donation box in the back of the Church. Please use the available envelopes to place the cash/check. Please write your name on the envelope so we can provide you with a tax statement at the end of the year.,
Fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council
Today the Church remembers the 350 holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council under the holy Patriarch Tarasius. The Synod of 787, the second to meet at Nicea, refuted the Iconoclast heresy during the reign of Empress Irene and her son Constantine VI. The Council decreed that the veneration of icons was not idolatry (Exodus 20:4-5), because the honor shown to them is not directed to the wood or paint, but passes to the prototype (the person depicted). It also upheld the possibility of depicting Christ, Who became man and took flesh at His Incarnation. The Father, on the other hand, cannot be represented in His eternal nature, because “no man has seen God at any time” (John 1:18).
The last of the seven Ecumenical Councils dealt with the icons.
The iconoclasts had support from both inside and outside the Church. Outside the Church, there may have been influence from Jewish and Muslim ideas, and it is important to note that just prior to the iconoclast outbreak Muslim Caliph Yezid ordered the removal of all icons within his territory. Inside the Church, there had always existed a "puritan" outlook that saw all images as latent idolatry. Largely through the work of St. John of Damascus (c. 676-749), who, ironically, was housed in Muslim-controlled lands and therefore outside the reach of the Empire, the iconodules' (Those in favor of the icons) position won out.
The Decision of the Council
Concerning the teaching of icons
Venerating icons, having them in churches and homes, is what the Church teaches. They are "open books to remind us of God." Those who lack the time or learning to study theology need only to enter a church to see the mysteries of the Christian religion unfolded before them.
Concerning the doctrinal significance of icons
Icons are necessary and essential because they protect the full and proper doctrine of the Incarnation. While God cannot be represented in His eternal nature ("...no man has seen God", John 1:18), He can be depicted simply because He "became human and took flesh." Of Him who took a material body, material images can be made. In so taking a material body, God proved that matter can be redeemed. He deified matter, making it spirit-bearing, and so if flesh can be a medium for the Spirit, so can wood or paint, although in a different fashion.
I do not worship matter, but the Creator of matter, who for my sake became material and deigned to dwell in matter, who through matter effected my salvation... —St. John of Damascus
The seventh and last Ecumenical Council upheld the iconodules' position in AD 787. They proclaimed: Icons... are to be kept in churches and honored with the same relative veneration as is shown to other material symbols, such as the 'precious and life-giving Cross' and the Book of the Gospels. The 'doctrine of icons' is tied to the Orthodox teaching that all of God's creation is to be redeemed and glorified, both spiritual and material.
